Earhart 2

A view of the bar area within Earhart’s Runway Grill

It’s no surprise of the history that Amelia Earhart left behind within the aviation world – and it’s that passion for aviation’s history that led one married couple to open Earhart’s Runway Grill located in Lakeland, Florida. At Ridge Landing Residential Airpark, along with being flight enthusiasts, we appreciate those pilots who paved the way to travel in the sky the way we currently can – which is why we highly recommend flying into this grill.

Earhart’s Runway Grill has an interesting history behind it – being that the owner’s great grandfather actually played a pivotal role in Amelia Earhart’s flying career. In 1932, Earhart completed her first transatlantic flight, where she was chosen by the owner’s great grand-father – David Layman – in place of another woman pilot whose family objected to the flight. As long as Layman could find another candidate to take Amy Phipps Guest’s place, the trip would still be supported by the Guest family.

Surround Yourself with Aviation History by Flying into Earhart’s Runway Grill

There is no better way to experience the Amelia Earhart legacy than being around those who actually have experienced the boundary breaking pilot. After seeing several letters and photos sent from Earhart to his great grandfather, and listening to countless stories growing up, the Layman’s opened Earhart’s Runway Grill.
